From TMTM

Ludwiguniversal, thats whats so weird for me, in all my years I,ve never ran across a deal like this. They were at a Church community type garage sale in my own city. A friend called me about them, sent an e-mail and I said buy them thinking the parts alone would be worth the $50.00 dollars and when he dropped them off at my house wednesday I was shocked to say the least. Thats why I,am so carefull as I take them apart. I am still in shock I guess, looking for anything that is suspicious about them. Tom

Deals like that do exist out there, you just got very lucky. I'm sure you have an original kit. It's possible still in this day that some people don't realize what they have. In other cases, some people don't want to bother with eBay or Craigslist either and aren't all about making money off their old stuff they aren't going to use anymore. Not drum gear, but I just scored a free Wurlitzer 200a electric piano from an acquaintance that is aware of what they go for these days, and just didn't care. His justification was, "I'm never gonna play it. If you will, it's yours". So, it does happen. Maybe not all the time but when it does it's usually something pretty awesome!

Seriously man, that's a kickazz kit! Enjoy it :)

That set is very sweet even if it's a re-wrap. $50 can barely get you a case to carry one drum in.

You could just hold on to the drums for another 40 years with that same wrap on and then the wrap will be vintage as well.

I,am getting very happy now with the $50.00 find. I have 9 Grandchildren and 2 are in the rudiment learning phase of drumming in school. My son is a pro. drummer and is on the road/studios a lot.

I am in the process of restoring a sixties round badge Gretsch 20,12,12,14

kit for one grandson and the $50.00 kit to the other grandkid. I am trying to talk my other grandsons into learning guitar or keyboards as I am almost considering labeling myself a drum collector now, and not a player althought I play every day.

I now have 5 Vintage kits and one newer kit. They are, Late 60s Primere gold sparkle kit(excuse the spelling) a 1968 Ludwig obp big beat kit, a 60s round badge Gretsch kit and Now A Ludwig Super Classic Kit, a Gretsch Catalina series kit, a 1984 Phaser eleven double bass ludwigs and last, four snares.

None of the grandkids are allowed to play or get near MY obp ludwigs.

One good outcome is all Grandkids will be playing Vintage kits.

Like the father said to his son while dying in the movie Braveheart "I,am a happy man"
