Hi gang, I've run up against an ugly issue with the late 40's Slingy kit I'm in the process of cleaning up. The 9x12 rack tom will not accept ANY current production heads, including the Aquarian American Vintage heads. The shell appears to be about 1/16 larger than even those hoops, and don't get me started on standard Remo heads...there isn't a chance. The calf heads that came on the drum took tremendous amounts of force to remove. The drums are not immaculate collector-grade, but they are all original and complete in great shape overall with no extra holes. I truly wish to respect the drums and their history, but I'm also dying to get these babies out and play them.
The good news is that the snare and kick are happy with current production heads of various types. I sincerely want to maintain the drums as close to original as possible while enjoying the convenience of modern heads.
So I'm open to opinions about what to do in order to get these drums completely up and running.
Thanks ahead of time for reading my wall o' text and for your thoughts.
