Did Ludwig have different snare beds cut in early 60's compared to mid 60's? Last viewed: 10 minutes ago

A friend brought over a Jazz Fest tonight (pre serial numbers),and the snare bed looks quite deep, and only over around a 2" area per side..

I have a JF from circa 1965,and the snare bed is laid in over a wide area on both sides of the drum......

you can see around 6"-8" from end to end from where it starts/ends on this drum.

Thanks for any info.

I have a 1959 10x14 marching snare which has beds as you describe. 2" wide and deep.

My Jazzfest (date stamped Nov 1963) has much wider and more gradual beds.

My Jazz Combo (also 1959) has snare beds more like the Jazzfest and not like the marching snare.

Maybe it depends on which guy put the beds in rather than a change over time.
