the nickel throw off, would require at least one extra hole, hopefully they used the existing bottom hole from the three point. also these nickel throw offs where very prone to breakage, maybe they've since fixed that flaw, but once this did exist.
debating this drum set Last viewed: 4 hours ago
Assuming the drums were all the same finish and in original condition, the seller did indeed screw the value of the drums. If they were non-matching and there were some problems with the existing "original" finishes, then he probably improved them. They're what they are, I think I would value them as a somewhat-original vintage set of shells with original lugs, but I'd be asking for more details from the seller prior to making a commitment on them.
But I'm not a purist. I do not believe in dis-assembling perfectly good original drums and selling the parts, but I understand sometimes very old drums end up good candidates for a restore project. That being said I appreciate the utility value of a nice set of Slingerland shells, modernized. If the shells aren't messed up, if they're close to original, they are arguably much better than any keller or other new shell you could buy. That alone is reason enough to give these drums a look if that's what you're after: the warmth of a Slingerland shell drum set.
All this banter aside, I strongly suggest no one buys anything on ebay based on the suggestions of the forum membership. Buyer beware, means just that--as a buyer, you gotta take responsibility for your own purchases. So get all the info you can, take the opinions into consideration, and then make your own mind up.
