Seeing Cozy Powell play in the late 1970s is probably what got me into drumming - I can still recall seeing him pounding away on that lovely Ludwig red sparkle kit of his when I watched him with Rainbow in London. Reading his equipment list on the rear of their live double album, it states that he played a 14x6.6" metal Ludwig symphonic snare yet I always thought that these were a wooden snare. Is this correct? I was watching a video clip of him the other night on You Tube which gives some good close-up views ([ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrnzBPcXi1o"]Rainbow Still Im Sad Cozy Powell drum solo Live 1977 HD - YouTube[/ame]) and it looks to me as though he using a Supra.

Thanks guys and fascinating that you (BEC) toured with them - I'm sure that was a hell of a thing. I always really admired Cozy's no-nonsense approach as well as his showmanship and while there were many players who were perhaps more technically complex, he put his stamp on everything that he did. When he died, much of this stuff was auctioned off for comparatively little money which is a shame. What I'd have given to have got my hands on any of his gear!
