couple of transitional acrolites Last viewed: 3 minutes ago

as you may know, I collect Ludwig oddities and i especially like the acrolites that you don't see everyday. recently procured this one via ebay/Rob Cook. this is a transition model in that the shell was intended for a blue olive badge. when installing a keystone badge on these shells, the top of the badge actually goes under the batter head. I have one that fits that description as well. it appears that someone at Ludwig got creative with this one and mounted the badge sideways so that it could all be seen. its good and tight and shows no sign of ever spinning, moving or having made contact with the head.

serial number is 729774. has a date stamp of sept. 23 1969. 12 hole blackface p85, script logo snare butt, amber tip 2517124 20 strand wires(my favorites). has a small round knob muffler.

the second one here is the other that I mentioned with the badge way up under the head. ive had it a few months now. it is also a 69 drum. serial number is 732146 making it one of the last keystone badge drums. it has a date stamp of oct. 17 1969. it also has a 12 hole blackface p85,script logo butt and small round knob muffler.

I think ive got about 18 different style acrolites now. just wanted share the recent one. i'll get them all together for a family pic one of these days.

Mike,

Those are nice looking Acros. I recently purchased my first KB Acro and it instantly became my favorite sounding and playing snare in my collection. I haven't even taken the time to clean it up yet! My nice Supras are not happy!

randy-thanks.congrats on getting yours! they are great snares I think. can be cranked to sound much like the supra but can be tuned so much fatter as well. I love'em.

might as well ad this one to the mix. this is one of mine that would have been made right around the same time. this one has the blue olive badge that the other two should have gotten. puts in in the right spot. you can usually spot these acros because the finish looks like the 60's models but it has the b/o badge. this one actually has no serial number on it. another transitional detail.

Nice Acros! Mine is a later model, and I do like seeing the differences in finish.
