found this on german ebay, never seen it or heard of it before, a 1966 brass shell super-sensitive....
could this be real? Last viewed: 5 seconds ago
That could have an orchesrta issue. The looks of it scream something other than for mass consumption. Nice looking, all the wonderful plating. That is a nice looking drum. If it is a counterfiet, someone spent a lot of money and time to take a risk on ebay, wouldn't you think? It could very well be a special issue to who knows who, or for what reason.

Or, just t be the Devil's advocate, here....
What if someone wanted to re-plate a pitted SS and stopped at the copper plating? That looks like copper to me.

Whatever it is, it's gorgeous. I love the look of it, and my money says it hits, or gets close to 100E.

Most Germans are taught English in school as in many EU countries. If they can't read or write English they surely know someone who does. Just email the dude and ask your questions and keep it as simple as possible. There are also translation programs on the internet. Or take the listing to the langauge dept at your local college. It's not gonna' be that hard to figure out what this drum is.
I gotta' agree with jonnistix, probably a special issue of some kind. Seems like Ludwig did that a lot....Eddie.
PS Nice lookin' drum!

Yes Ludwig did make a brass shell super in the 60s,drum looks right to me but if you can ask for photos of the snare beds and the inside egde of the drum ifs its rounded over its a brass shell..I just sold a Ludwig trans badge super brass[1958-59] same drum as this one sold it for 1,500.00...Mikey
If it was a 1966 drum it SHOULD be an aluminum shell as the brass shells were all done by 1963 (supposedly). The hardware looks like brass or copper plating though. Hard to tell due to the lousy pictures. Something seems amiss to me. Ludwig would not have (and did not) offer brass or copper plating to the public at that time. I would be leary of spending big bux on this one.....
This might be gold plated. Ludwig gave gold plated Supras and Supersensitives as rewards for high sales to successful dealers at various points during the 1960's, and it wouldn't surprise me if this was something like that. The hardware has the same faded look as those Gretsch gold-plated snares.
Thanks,
Bill
