COS Slingerland Sound King Last viewed: 20 hours ago

So I picked up this "Sound King" the other day hoping it was brass. It's not, it's chrome over steel. It looks like a Sound King and seems to be all original (minus the heads and strainer though I did get get the originals with it as well) but I am having trouble knowing what to call this, because to my knowledge all of the Sound Kings are COB. Is this a fancy Slingerland Frontier? A Frontier King perhaps? Or did they just make these drums in COS as well?

Thanks oh knowledgeable drum guru's

There was a Steel Shell Sound King.. was made later & in Taiwan.... But it should not have that Niles Badge on it.... does the badge/grommet look like it may have been fiddled with...

Cheers

John

I also had that thought about the Niles badge, because the rest of the shell seems to scream made in Taiwan. The badge feels nice and tight and the grommet looks original. I could supply some pictures if it would help determine if it is original. And yes a magnet does stick firmly to the shell.

I compared this drum to my 6.5" COB Sound King last night with all original parts and the drum is a good match, definitely has all of the same hardware, screws, etc.

I suppose it could be from the 80's, but the badge # seems to put it somewhere around 1975. Badge # 209321

I looked around the net and found a few of them with 2 and 3 serial numbers, all ads claim 70`s COS. Nobody of the ten or so I found puts a series or model to them.

That is interesting.

Could it be a school model ?
