correct snare wires for Pearl freefloating? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Happy New Year All!flower

Lucky me, I just acquired a 5.5 X 14" Pearl free-floating metal snare drum for repair. It wasn't in the house fifteen minutes and I had it apart to clean it and put new heads on it when I discovered that the snare wires on this thing are for a 16" drum. Can anybody tell me if this the intended original size, or has this thing been modded? Sorry no photos available at this time. It has the usual Pearl throw off and an adjustable butt plate , with Pearl Superhoops with the added extra square cage of metal around the snare gate if this helps.

Thanks.

Glen,

Those snares should extend beyond the head. I want to say they're 15 - 15.5" in total length. Pearl sells replacements if you do need them.

I've attached some pictures of a FF drum I used to own. Is this the wire length you're referring to? If so, it is the correct length.

Gentlemen,

This drum is really starting to impress me sound wise. The snare wires are indeed what you show in your picture Mark, and Matt...I think I will order a replacement from Pearl as this thing was stored poorly and quite scratched up including some bent snare wires. Happily, my research has lead me to the realization that I can get wood, metal or even acrylic shell replacements making this drum very versatile. I cleaned everything and put an Ambassador Renaissance head on it. While taking it apart, I actually found blue painters tape and parakeet feathers inside.....geeez! Kids never cease to amaze me with the way they hop up their gear, or customize it with neglect.

A fantastic sounding snare all in all.

Thanks guys.

Glen, is yours brass? Mine is and it was the first quality drum I-ve owned. Mine has diecast hoops, thought they all did but it would sound great with triple flanged too.
