Hey all.

Wanted to post about my CL,odd ball, low cost, semi cleaned up,

40's WFL snare $100. I love this drum. Need to figure out if I should wrap or veneer w/something. It was duco previously. Thoughts?

40's WFL 13" tom. $40 Who's got a rim and rods for me?? (These drum has very thick and blunt bearing edges. Any thoughts on head choices? Or having the bearing edges done by precision?

60/70's 30" Yamaha bass drum. $30. Picked it up for a buck and inch I guess! The thing goes BOOM.

70's 16" Slingerland concert tom. Man...I want this thing to sound much better than it does right now but still fun and at $25...who can ***** about it? :Santa:

Playing this was wacky but loved putting the odd balls together.

Hey, this is my kind of post! I love playing orphans. For some reason I prefer the look of mismatched drums over a complete kit.

'68 Ludwig Pioneer, '63 Ludwig 12" tom, '69 Ludwig 14" tom, 30's/40's Ludwig 15" marching snare as floor tom, 70's Rogers birch (Yamaha?) bass drum:

Collectively, I think I spent around $300 on all of them.

cool base and ft

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I really like the vibe this setup puts out. There is more visual coordination going on than I first realized. The red on the floor tom ties in the snare nicely. Very cool!

Hey, thanks! It was pretty accidental, but I was very happy to find it all worked together.

A couple years back I saw Ian McKaye's band The Evens, with Amy Farina playing a jellybean sparkle kit. I think that hooked me on the idea of putting together my own!

Another great thing about playing orphans is you don't have to worry about paying top dollar for what's missing. Instead you can be opportunistic, and buy whatever works visually and sonically.

Theres a sweet spot on my heart for mix-matched sets...everytime someones comes to my shop they cant believe that im playing a mix match considering all the complete Rogers,Slingys,Luddys,Gretsches,Camcos,Premiers,Haymans,etc...surroundin them!

Anyway, I guess is that Bill Ward character that I have deep inside

From what I can see good ol' Bill is using a Frankenstein kit that includes a 26" Slingerland bass drum, A Hayman 26" bass drum, a single tension Slingerland rack...Im not sure but the snare looks like a 402...Bless your heart, Bill!

Cool looking kits guys, I like the mix'n'match thing. Btw That's a great shot of Bill's kit, thats what he played a Cal. Jam! He immediatly came to mind when I read this thread.

Looks like he has more drums here, what seems to be slingerland copper wrap floor, a Ludwig black/blue oyster floor, and a Ludwig club date rack tom to go with the slingerland rack. Also note the slingerland deep hand bongos, and most of the bottom heads are off!
