champagne super classic ludwigs question Last viewed: 15 hours ago

Hi all,

I checked out a set of circa 1966 champagne sparkle super classic ludwigs tonight and wanted to get input before I make an offer (if i decide to..).

The drums were 22, 16, 13, and 5" chrome supra phonic snare, correct hi hat and cymbal stand and bass drum L stand, trap case, and cloth cases for all drums..

As the owner told me in advance, these drums were immaculate, almost mint(maybe i'm exaggerating a little, but really amazing), except for some pitting on snare. He got them new as a kid, took great care of them and has left them in cases for 20 years. He never changed the heads. They sounded shockingly great, were tuned kinda high. There's a pair of 13" very old A hats, a late 60s A ride and a very old looking a crash (but had a chunk cut out of it from a crack).

Looking through the vent-the white paint looked almost new..

He was asking what I thought was quite high for everything: 2500. But he said make an offer if interested.

What do you all think would be a good deal, in my favor anyway..

I'm not really in the market for these but they were just so nice I'm thinking about it..

Depends how badly you want them.. $2500 does sound high, i mean, as minty as they may be, and as classic an instrument may be, it still is just wood, plastic and metal.. A decent offer would be between $1500- $1800, and that's pushing it.. Today's vintage Ludwig market can be as fickle and fluctuating as the anomalies that Ludwig is famous for in the first place.. I would even offer him $1400 cash, just to see his response..There's no way a vintage Ludwig collector would pay that much, unless they're a collector of that particular sparkle and absolutely must have it regardless of what is being asked for them.. Check out the link i posted from the vintage Ludwig drum site with a mint champagne sparkle 60's drum kit..Same price range i suggested and have estimated.. Hope this helps you out, and wish best of luck ;))
