Oh ya,
I`m inventing dual action hydrolic t-Rod actuators that pull the head down to the lug with brake fluid instead of turning screws. Then I`ll be the walk of the caulk !i
They`ll be so cool sit`n with my triple decker dual pedal HH !i

Aging is only 1 factor but it's a HUGE factor in the sound. That's where that "warmth" is coming from.Of course LA Camco's sound like DW with more warmth.
Yes that's where the warmth is coming. I don't think you quite understand where I was coming from or that I just worded it poorly.
What I was trying to say is that the initial tone of the drum is there from the beginning. In most cases it will get warmer with age but the drum isn't going to drastically change to a completely different character in tone. That is why I was comparing LA Camco to DW as DW has that same tone quality but hasn't aged yet.
So basically what I was trying to say is that I highly doubt that when DW drums reach 40-50 years old they are going to suddenly change tone to sound like Oaklawn Camco. Austin Fibes on the other hand are already very warm sounding and are very close in tone to Camco IMO. Interesting too is that Fibes have a straight wall, no re-rings!

If it's an F snare, it always will be but that root note will become more prevalent and pure. Spurious overtones will fade and diminish. Sympathetic harmonics will intensify. So basically what I was trying to say is that I highly doubt that when DW drums reach 40-50 years old they are going to suddenly change tone to sound like Oaklawn Camco. Nothing sudden about it. it took 40 or 50 years. Will they sound just like Oaklawns? NO, different drum. Will they sound alot more like Oaklawns? You bet!. They may even come to sound similar enuf to sound "related" Austin Fibes on the other hand are already very warm sounding and are very close in tone to Camco IMO. I get what yer sayin. Aren't the Fibes fglass?
I really don't like the way DW 's sound. Just saying.
Original Fibes are either fiberglass (hence the name Fibes) or acrylic. Austin Fibes 1994- 200? are Jasper maple shells (around 2001 Fibes started making their own shells). They also started making acrylic drums again however the only fiberglass drums they produced were only snare drums
Dw is far above what Camco made, Dw has Multiple shell configurations not just one like camco had, Dw's hardware is cutting edge and is leap years above what Camco had, Dw's uses a tighter or smaller thread count on their Tension Rods just pointing out only one of Dw's innovations.
didn't know this about DW's tension rod threading! thanks for sharing
I completely understand, especially with the collectors series. I've played lot's of collectors kits over the years in different situations and I'm not sure about them. But I swear to you my Jazzers are incredible. Maybe I got lucky and they're a one off. I know the kit was in their display room before I got them.

The Jazz series were suppose to sound like old RB Gretsch. I've never played a kit but from what you mentioned here it sounds like they hit their mark. Sadly they didn't embrace their own history of Camco. Doing 4 ply shells and winged badges would've been cool!

Hehe I heard that as well but no way, well not comparing mine they're not!! My RB's are something else completely. Maybe DW used that sound as inspiration but in the case of my kit have missed that mark, but have happened on something else that is also Walking
A friend of mine played them recently and did say how they reminded him of his 80's Gretsch kit in a way, so maybe a bit of G in there somewhere.
What about Hayman drums? The lugs are very similar to camco/dw..
