i got a calf snare head on ebay. it's in good shape, but has been used before and has a halo where it seated on the previous drum. is there anything should or could do before trying this on a new drum to loosen it up or something? do i need to get it damp? thanks for any help.

Hi
I've had some luck with used calfhide. I soak them off the fleshhoop and retuck them. That way they fit to the drum I want to put them on. If you do retuck it put some wax on the bearing edge of your drum to keep moisture from getting into the shell.
Good luck with it and if you want more information you can P.M. or emil. I'm no expert but I have tucked a dozen or so heads - new and used.
