Buying a professional level kit..help?

Loading...

I promise you if I ever sell/trade one of my Ludwig kits I will come to you! I have only promised one other guy...so it looks like your chances are very good. Know I just need to figure out how to get myself to get rid of a set.

By the way I can try to locate one in your area?

From mcjnic

I'm looking for a Super Classic (early 60's - up to 64, red, gold, champagne). Would you want to trade one of yours for a Rogers kit?

I got these (58 Gretsch 3ply) for $900 with hardware & cymbals last fall on CL. 1st photo.

And turned it into this - some retoration required of course. 2nd photo

Sizes:

20/12/14 & matching snare 5.5x14

What I'm say is there are deals to be had - you just have to be there when they go down.

Good luck

Hey guys! Sorry about the wait in responses! My internet has been down for a few days! :(

So, those Ludwig Super Classic drums, how do they differ from club dates, and downbeats? I know that the club dates were cheaper drums, right? I mean they had the single lugs going down the drum for cost effectiveness so I would imagine that they don't stay in tune or hold up well to hard hitting..

Hey Mcjnc.. Those Rogers drums, are you talking about one's on ebay? Also, Jonnstix nice find with the craigslist stuff! Those come with hardware and cymbals too, way cool!

Which brings up another question.. Do vintage hoops hold up well to lots of rim shots and heavy hitting? I doubt If I bought a kit like this that I would disrespect it in such a way, but I just want to know what to expect from experienced players..

Also, does anyone have any experience with switching out the bass drum spurs of vintage drums? Maybe they will hold up, but I don't want the bass drum of my kit moving back and forth while I'm playing it...

By the way, nice find on those Gretsch drums man! They look sweet!

Thanks for all of the help again, you guys rock!

-Nick

If you need one, I will very shortly have 2 more bass drum anchors, and for the lowly price of shipping, I will gladly mail you one. They will hold that bass still, period.

And I even think I have the rubber stubs to go on it. See, the nubs in the up position, reverse for wood floors, and the spikes are for carpet.

From nemo007

So, those Ludwig Super Classic drums, how do they differ from club dates, and downbeats?

Super Classic = 13,16,22

Downbeat = 12,14,20

Clubdate = any of the same drums with centralized bowtie lugs. Yes, they were the cheaper alternative because they had less hardware, but if you play them side-by-side with a similarly-sized Ludwig with classic lugs, you'll be hard-pressed to be able to tell a difference in the sound...

Jonnstix! that is sweet! I will absolutely take you up of that! Where do they attach, right at the front of the hoop? Also, I have been looking around more at the hardware aspect of the drums.. And I have been considering buying a speed king to go with the set. Thoughts?

I saw this video, what do you guys think?

None of the kits I listed are on eBay. Those are all at dealers with set prices.
