Okay, after years of trying to win a Ludwig Blue oyster floor tom to match the rest of my set for less than 350-400 bucks,I was able to score a Rogers blue strata for a very low price. The color is pretty close.

My question is,do I swap the lugs and leg mounts to match the Ludwigs? This can be done without any modification to the shell btw and,I have the parts.

OR,do I just leave it as is?

I have NO intention of messing with badges or even the muffler. Thanks

It is not Ludwig and not a true match anyway, why not just leave as is? Is anyone really going to care? I mean if you really want a match despite the long wait for a Ludwig, use it as is for now and stay on the hunt.

Most people won't notice unless one of the members VDF comes by. Heck we only take out vintage kits and very seldom do people ask about the kits..most people want to talk about the snares and that's even other players.

Every once in a while someone will say, "Wow that is a great sounding drum set, what is it?"

30's Radio King - 26, 13, 13, 16
49 - WFL Ray McKinley - 26, 13, 16
58 - Slingerland Duco
58 - Slingerland Krupa Deluxe
70 - Ludwig Champagne Sparkle - 20, 12, 14
70 - Ludwig Champagne Sparkle - 22 (need), 13, 16
And some others..

Hmm...my vote is to just leave it alone. Let it be a Rogers in Rogers clothing. Its going to sound great without the Luddy hardware right :).

Have fun drumming!

I concur....as I am guilty of trying to dress up a slingerland bass drum to look like a ludwig for a (now deceased) friend. It was some work since the lug mounting holes didn't match up (the ludwig pattern was smaller than the slingy). Having re-purchased the drums from his estate, I am regretting doing that to them, even though it was at his request. I am now in the process of restoring that slingy drum back to its former self (glory?) by refitting the slingy hardware and patching the "mistakes". The holes/repairs will not be visible, but I will still know it was there and what I did to it (which was against MY better judgement, but hey, the customer is ALWAYS right.....right?)

So, I say, best to leave the drum be....use it as is, and keep looking for the one you really want. When you find it, you can sell the Rogers the way it is and recoup FULL value at time of resale, rather than have to deal with reversing modifications done to it (which does de-value it).

Well the good thing is that Rogers small beavertails and large Ludwig classic lugs use the same hole spacing and will interchange without any modifications to the holes. Go for the Luddy lugs. But maybe use the Rogers washers so as not to put any new indentations on the inside of the shell.

I'd keep it as a stock Rogers. A ludwig will turn up eventually. The hunt is most of the fun.

all that time you spent changing it out, you could be playing it. plus who says one is better than the other, its all opinion

I found a couple of Slingerland drums that were the same vintage and color as my sons 67 Ludwigs. The wrap is identical, Slingerland and Ludwig must have bought their finish from the same vendor. I mean it's identical. My son doesn't care, unless you look at the lugs you cant tell.

Either way you go is fine...it's your drum, do what makes you happy. As long as you can return it to its original state, don't worry about it.
