I know, no videos, but it is my duty as a drummer in the world to post this clip of George Duke and Billy Cobham...the drumming insanity starts around 4:20
Billy Cobham Awesomeness! Last viewed: 9 hours ago
I remember hearing the Spectrum album for the first time and was blown away. How fast he played some of those licks. So when the next album came out I remember I went to my best friends house to play it the first time. We were in high school them. He put it on and we were going crazy listening to it. It was unbelievable. Super human. When the first side finished and we went to turn it over we realized we had just heard that side at 45rpm.. Can you imagine?
Cobbham really broke the mold and is flat out amazing. I still have both Spectrum and Crosswinds on vinyl (and cd!) and have been long time favorites.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Was listening to a best of CTI CD the other day...
All the songs sounded late 70's funky, but you can tell Bill C. is on quite a few tracks....band2

PS - Spectrum = WOW!!
I remember playing the song (Birds of Fire)at a concert in H.S.-of course I had to re-invent the beat as I had single bass. This song and a Don Ellis album totally bent my concept of time signatures from then on.I especially liked B.C. crashing the 16th before the one-HAHAHA!Burger Kin

No, I can't imagine! I have trouble keeping up with Cobham in 'real-time'. That must have sounded like a band of aliens playing some weird space-jazz on off-world made instruments!
Thanks for the laugh, Vibes! Funny story.
John
In around 1977,I was real big on Coltrane, and had a friend buy an LP of his...
Don't know if he did it on purpose, but he played the 33 LP at 45...
Sounded different!
