I am interested in comments about the best vendor to use for wrap that will come as close as possible to the onyx finishes Rogers used in the 60's. I note that Slingerland used a similar wrap called agate pearls, and these tend to have a different look. The Rogers onyx material had more luster and had greater depth in my view.
Observations thus far:
1. Precision seems to have a closer match to the originals in respect of the luster and depth. However, the current material has a more linear pattern and the waves of color tend to be cut off by horizontal streams of black. Overall, pretty close though. I have used this wrap before in red, blue and black versions, with red and blue coming closer to original than black. They recommend that it be applied using contact cement in its entirety and that is my preferred method, as well.
2. Jammin Sam's material seems to be closer in huge and pattern to what was used by Slingerland. It also does not appear to have the linear effect I see in the Precision wrap. I have never used Jammin Sam's wrap.
3. Both seem to imply the origin is the same firm that produced the material for Rogers and Slingerland in the 60's. I understand that firm to be Delmar. I do wonder if one firm is ordering/receiving a different material (maybe for reasons of distinguishing their products) and that one might in fact be closer to a Rogers onyx and the other closer to a Slingerland agate.
Any and all comments will be appreciated, both in the forum and by PM if you chose. Pictures of completed works will be highly appreciated and I will provide a direct email address through PM to increase the capture of the details.
Thanks in advance.
