BASS DRUM PRICE - I need a little help from the regular buyer sellers here please

Hi

I'm thinking of buying an old Gretsch bass drum - it needs restoring & it's missing a hoop. It's 28" and I think there is a 14" tom included. 1940's I'm thinking. Is $350usd too much to pay for something like that? I don't think it has legs. I would be spending a tidy bit to get it up-n-running too - clafhide heads & maybe some other parts.

I've never bought one of these or restored something like this so I'm a little out of touch

Gary, I just looked at the link, I'm only gonna tell you what I'd do, I'd passadena!! to high for what your doing, where you thinking of going with lugs on the tom? because the pigskin tacked bottom drum sound not so great!hey the gretsch shell I told you about doesn't have the gretsch badge it was a marcher, I think both hoops are on it, and the hardware is all there I've not seen it up close, just off the top of my head!

Thanks for all this Mark - appreciate it.

I will take my time & just the right BD may just fall into my lap. Just like my drums did....I was not looking to buy last year (I had a very nice kit). But, man...when a 58 gretsch kit, with cymbals & Ludwig hardware was being sold (affordibly) just down the street....well...that was too much to resist for me & probably a lot of folks here I'm sure.

...Ya - I'll wait.

Cheers,

Gary for what it's worth I snagged a 14x26 Radio King bass drum with both calf heads intact for $150. It had been painted duco and the paint had all but flaked off. That's probably why the price was so good. Be patient and the right drum will come along. Half the fun of playing a big bass drum is learning to "feather" it like the old guys did.

Nice score! Bet it's a sweet drum.

"Feathering" the drum - ya, I've heard one of the drum teachers here in town talk about that once. I'm looking for a drum that has the finish pretty well shot but the hardware, shell & badge is intact - 26 or 28 would be nice. I'll be patient
