1925 Ludwig & Ludwig 5x15 All Gold Standard Model Last viewed: 19 hours ago

Hi,

Here's the latest to enter the collection. I got this drum at the 2011 Chicago Vintage Drum Show. A special thanks goes to Bun E. Carlos for selling me the drum and helping me to complete another "set", well, kind of a "set". As you will see in the photos, my 4x15 and 6.5x15 are both 10 lug drums so I'm taking an admittedly liberal meaning of the word "set" here but these All Gold Models are very hard to find and I was thankful to be able to get this one...but you get the idea anyway, right?

1925 Ludwig & Ludwig 5x15 All Gold Standard Model

I pretty much left this 8 lug Standard Model as-is except for a little lemon oil on the shell and hardware. There was a heater/light bulb hole in the shell but I was able to install an old light bulb fixture that I got from another drum, notice the original wiring. Of-the-era heads and original Snappi Wires rounded out this cleaning/light restoration.

Enjoy.

Mike, i have two of those cast iron stands that I like to both use and appreciate... one is at drum set height (too short for me...an orchestral player) and my other is a leedy that was stripped of its paint so i beautifuly repainted it with "top-secret" epoxy-based black paint. But i'm still scared it will get scratched...maybe i should add laquer

Have you ever repainted one of these? Do you know of an idea for fabricating new center posts?

also, I just posted a picture of a 1914 L & L I picked up for fairly cheap. I know pre-20 all metal snare are rare, but how good of a find was this? i've seen one other on olympic drums.

Best,

Nick
