GC grew too fast and often has employed musicians on their staff rather than people who have just an employment or business interest. That has been a good thing for musicians, but I suspect it has been challenging for the organization at times. With vintage drums, it is essentially centrally controlled by phone conversation. One guy decides what they are worth, and usually the staff sticks to it like iron. Tough to get a deal even when one would be appropriate for both parties.

FWIW since the kit was used they didn't have the original boxes so they used whatever they had laying around. Give them credit for recycling old boxes. As to whether or not they lost money on the shipping, it doesn't matter since right now GC needs to show cash flow, and if shipping a ships-in two-boxes kit in five boxes is what they have to do sometimes to get it, then so be it. For an outfit like GC, operating costs take a backseat to cash flow.
