Please note that even the oversized American Vintage heads will not guarantee a fit on all older drums. I had to cut the collar to get them to fit on a late 40s RK tom.

Chris love to see pics of progress sounds cool did that work gary

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Sure,if a drum is WAY out of round (like some RK's I have seen!)......

almost nothing is going to fit.

Yeah, in my case (and according to the Drum Foundry layout mat) the drum is in round, but exceeds 12" in diameter by about 1/16", I don't think having a layer of wrap on there helps much either. Luckily, a friend who is an Aquarian artist is going to take me over there to have custom heads made to fit the kit.

Gary, the kit is starting to come together. I've had a bunch of work, the kids have been sick, and my wife had surgery 3 weeks ago. I've barely had time to tie my shoes! I did get the rack tom completely cleaned & reassembled. Had to have the bottom rering in the snare glued back in as well as one of the rerings on the kick. Easy work for a buddy and they look great. Here's a couple of pics of the rack tom completed - check out that gap in the hoop (2nd picture) where I split it to fit!:

The sound is AMAZING. I can't wait to get the rest finished.

VERY NICE!!! My most desired kit! The holy grail of drums in my book!

I'm no guru, just a vintage drum junkie!

Does anyone know the thickness difference between the Medium and Thin weights of these heads? Is it like Ambassadors (10 mil) and Diplomats (7.5 mil)?
