Anyone else tired of constantly seeing posts like.... Last viewed: 1 day ago

From amosguy

I personally don't mind posts about gear listed elsewhere. That is how I now own a Rogers 4 piece Wildwood set (with matching wood Powertone snare) and a matching Dynasonic Wildwood snare. Also the final 12" Sonor Teardrop Ruby Pearl tom to complete another set.I do look myself, but sometimes someone else has seen what I want, and I appreciate the head's up.

Ditto. In fact there's a 60s Ludwig set that someone just posted that's on Allentown CL.

I do the "adhuntr" for Pearl fiberglass drums (among many other searches 'cause that's what I'm always looking for), but quite frankly don't have the time to set & search for everything. And, because of one of these types of posts, I worked with a VDF member and purchased and had shipped from Fresno CA to KS a load of stuff I needed (again, many thanks to fishwaltz for his efforts and Bentley's Drum Shop for packing and shipping 4 huge boxes!). And, struck up a good friendship with fish to boot!

So would you put that in vintage drum talk, vintage cymbal talk, general question talk, the for sale section or the topic that is currently popular and viewed ??

I don't know what the big deal is... I think it's good karma to forward off something that looks good but maybe either out of reach or too far away. Seriously, last week I forwarded a local listing to another forum member who lived in the same town and he had not seen the listing. So, had they still been there when he got there he could have scored a cool kit. Unfortunately, they were gone by the time he got to them, but if he hadn't seen the listing he wouldn't have even had a chance.

If it were a spam post or something irrelevant I could understand, but this is all relevant to our hobby.

Kits:
1966 Ludwig Hollywood Gold Sparkle Pearl 12/13/16/22
Star 3pc in Red Glass Glitter (1960's)
Snares:
1959 Ludwig Pioneer Mahogany
60's Ludwig Pioneer Gold Sparkle
60's Ludwig Acrolite (Keystone)
Ludwig/Custom 6.5x14
1960's Bolero (MIJ)

I think when fish helped me pick up the Pearls in Fresno he posted the CL link in the non-USA category. Quite frankly, if I remember correctly he posted the link because he thought it was a good deal that he couldn't use but thought somebody could (which it was, even with the shipping/packing charge). Now, any-way-you-slice that, that was part of what I thought this forum was for... members helping members. Knowledge and advice isn't the only way we can help each other, obviously! I had also posted in the "wanted to buy" category about the same time. I actually got quite a few replies from members basically saying, "did you see this thread?" refering to fish's post.

So, I'm not sure how to answer on which category something like this should be in. I have seen 'em in 'for sale' but then again in just about all of the other categories.

Hmmmmmmm... you know, there is such an abundance of eBay/craigslist posts and links that they just might need their own catagory. Good points on this!... perhaps with a DEDICATED place to post those, it will be easier for everyone to find... not to mention a tad neater on the oveall site. Let me see what I can do!

Or, we could treat this site less like Vintage Drum Fleamarket and more like Vintage Drum Forum. Honestly, I don't know why the site doesn't charge a fee for selling. I don't know the financials of the VDF and don't purport to, but I am pretty sure that one or a small few have put a ton of their own money up to get this thing going in the very beginning, and probably had to infuse some of their own green from time to time since then. Those guys actually "making their money back" isn't exactly the worst thing in the world, and if the buying/selling actually turns a little extra coin, well then woopdity doo! If it gets to that point TommyP, shoot me a PM and we can discuss my salary requirements to be an assistant Moderator!! "I am fair but firm!!!!!"LoLoLoLo

DH!...

Ah... you do slay me!! LOL!! Thing is, we have mentioned in the past that we really didn't want a TON of eBay/craiglslist posts, but you know... both those sites are now such a GIANT part of the "vintage drum market", that's it's kind of difficult to keep away from. As long as there are going to be posts that mention and/or deal with eBay/craigslist, maybe they can just be placed in ONE SPOT... that way, if a member wants to check out the latest "find", it will be in one spot, and not cluttering up the other catagories. It's a thought!

Regarding the Assistant Moderator postion: Your request has been duly noted, and is currently under consideration. I will say this though: The pay for this gig is FABULOUS!! I was able to pay off my house and pay both our daughter's college tuitions!!

Valid points. The times are always changing in all things. Can we at least call it what it is and name the section "Vintage Drum Fleamarket"??? LoLoLoLo
