Anybody selling on "Reverb" here?

Loading...

I've been in and out of Ebay for more than a decade. It used to be really good. Now it's a joke.

I've been wondering how "Reverb" is…Anybody here sells there? Is it a good experience?

Thanks in advance!

Vin

Yes, it's great. And the more users leave eBay and go to Reverb, the better it gets. I look at it as a long-term project. I kept waiting for something better to come along and knock eBay off the throne, and it's doing that, albeit slowly, for musical instruments.

Use it!

Hey Vinny,

I browse Reverb all the time and I recently listed a Slingerland drum set on there. I ended up selling it locally, but it seemed to be pretty good. I think they only charge 3.5% commission. Can't be any worse than eBay!

I sold a ride cymbal on Reverb with no issues. However I did have two different Rogers shell packs listed for a long time with only two bites (questions).

I did eventually sell one of the shell packs outside of Reverb to an out of state buyer who originally spotted the kit through my Reverb listing. I wasn't trying to circumvent Reverb's fees, but this buyer originally contacted me months before we finalized our deal. He had a lot of questions and we had several phone conversations before finalizing a deal. No point going through Reverb after all that. Plus I threw in another drum.

It would be nice if more buyers and sellers would use Reverb and move away from eBay because of the lower seller fees. I think the 'buyer protection' and familiarity that eBay offers might be one reason buyers prefer eBay. Selection is most likely another major reason. Far more choices and volume of product on eBay. I find myself searching eBay more frequently than Reverb for that reason. There's just not enough traffic.

I have made one purchase on Reverb, never sold anything. I think one thing that hurts it is that is a "Fixed Price" site, and not an auction site like ebay is. Most people (myself included) are more eager to "watch" things or bid on things just because the price is very low, and auction sites usually result in you feeling like you got a better deal.

I browse Reverb often. There are some good deals to be had, but they are few and far between! For the most part, I think that 98% of the stuff on there is overpriced. $200 for a B/O Badge Acrolite? $150 for a Speed King? Really?

There seems to be a lot of higher end vintage stuff on Reverb, and it's also priced accordingly. I also don't like the fact that the pages are not well organized, and as you browse you end up seeing the same item multiple times.

I think Reverb is a division of Chicago Music Exchange, if am not mistaken. If it is, that explains the jacked up prices. I visited the Chicago Drum Exchange once. I was impressed by it, but you couldn't touch a used kit for under $1,500 there, and that was nothing special or collectible. Chicago Music Exchange is like the guy who buys the Yamaha Recording Customs in fair condition for $900, then tries to re-sell them for $3,000, because Hey! They are Yamaha Recording Customs! I wish Reverb lots of success, but everyone (yes, I am looking at you Chicago Music Exchange/Chicago Drum Exchange) needs to remember that you are not Steve Maxwell or Donn Bennett. Just because you want to price your Ludwig Standard Kit in fair condition at $2000, doesn't mean someone will buy it!

I'm sorry to go off on a little bit of a rant, but I hate greedy people, and sadly, as you know, this industry is plagued with them.

unfortunately greed or the evolution of the vintage drum market is at hand, when 85 % of drums for sale are over the 1500 mark its a sign of the times ..so the market deal, for the aka flippers is down, but it also means our drums are going up in price ......sooner or later they will sell as its a fact ask high take offers....

We must remember that the sellers set the pricing, not Reverb.I have see extremely high items there.....and have also gotten and seen some great deals on Reverb. Any pricing issue should not reflect on Reverb. As for their part.....they are a great group of US....musicians who seek something better than the bay, & they certainly have done that in terms of seller fees. Time is on the side of Reverb and it will only get better and better.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I actually had the fortunate experience of talking to them, as there office is in ch-town and they are a great group of people, as far as the connection to the chi-town music exchange I am not sure of that, but they will work with you and help you with listings and pricing....they allow buyers too put offers in so there is great communication...the deals are there and true Chicago drum does list there too that i do know and they do sell a lot at there price points lets face it we here have guided every mo fro to what there drums and bronze is worth over the last few years so they are new to the game and think that 11 a drumstick was actually used by Joe, so they price junk hi but the good stuff well you all know what there worth so we can just keep a eye out for that crazy deal that once in a while still pop up ... LOL
