The drum most likely has a three ply shell with a mahogany outer ply. The worth of the drum to a seller is probaly $300. As a buyer, I would not pay over $150 if the drum without a badge is otherwise original. A repaint or rewrap without a badge is worth no more than $100 for me to rehab.
Thanks Leedy,
Bidding starts at 200.. no bids yet. but no freight cost as is local.. I'll watch it .. How do they sound?
Cheers

I agree, if the shell is stamped 1958, it's a 3 ply (Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany) Hollywood Ace. One step above the Deluxe Student model, but beware!...no badge is a red flag! Personally speaking, I wouldn't even give a bill for it unless it still has the brass hoops...$75 tops if not.
Just my 2 cents

I don't know about that one mate.I hope somone will back me up on this, but I seriously doubt that is a 58 vintage drum. One more red flag,is the badge should be on the left side as you look at the drum from the strainer side.I'm not absolutely positive but,but i'm pretty sure that drum is a phoney.Cheers

I would hold out on this one if I were you. There will be many other chances to pick up a vintage drum like that. If it could be proved original maybe however you really can't be 100% sure till you have the drum. I would just sit that one out.
Thanks Fella's for the good advice...I will heed your warnings,,
I am interested in it though, so I will take up sellers option to take a look first.
Below is the sellers description..

Coffee Break2
Vintage Slingerland 14X6 8 lug. 1958 Shell and original Slingerland Lugs, Rims and Throw. No extra holes.
Nice vintage sound and sad to see it go. I am no expert on vintage snares.
I was told the shell is from 1958 though it has no badge. I sourced the rims, lugs and throw from similar vintage Slingerland via Ebay many years ago and put it together.
I don't see these in Australia very often so it may be a bargain for the collector. If in the Sydney area, you are welcome to come see it at first hand.
One more question Guys..
I'm heading down for a look on the weekend, what sort of stamp should I be looking for inside the shell.. (I do think the seller is genuine).
"P", date etc?.. thanks
From the seller's description, the drum seems to be like the listing of someone trying to sell the hatchet that legend says George Washington used to chop down the cherry tree. it is all original except that is is on the third replacement handle and the second head. I now think that the drum has no more than $50 value as an extra drum to have around.

+1 Agreed. If its real, which I don't believe it is,it should have a large capitol P or M,be a 3 ply shell with a date stamp. The badge would have been all brass, with slingerland all in block upper case lettering.and would be a Chicago drum.I also have looked in just about every catalog there is and the badge should be on the left hand side as you face the strainer.
The rims should also be COB,and it should have a muffler.Like Leedybdp said...50 Dollars US is a good price if the hardware is in good shape, and COB.Bring a magnet to test the hoops.
If you feel you can get him down that far, then by all means go and see the drum. But I truly believe your going there for just parts.Just too many red flags.Cheers mate
