I have to say, the more I get under the hood of these drums the more I'm impressed by the quality of the hardware. Great chrome, thick cast metal, super high quality. Better than anything else I've seen from the era, actually, except maybe Camco.
Another Zickos Supersonic has Surfaced. Some questions now...

Did these ever get finished? I agree that the hardware (at least the lugs) was great. I just fixed up a beat up clear zickos kit, and I was impressed with the condition of the chrome onthe lugs
The design of these drums kill me..LoLoLoLo.. It looks like they had an allergic reaction
and puffed up ! .. Very cool..
Yes it did get finished! Strange that I happened to take a look at the forum the day after you guys posted again in this thread, I'm rarely here anymore. Here are some photos of what it turned out looking like.
And a video of them: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmGE7d-vcas"]Zickos Supersonic Demo - Rare Prototype Drum Set - YouTube[/ame]

Drums look great but I like the style of your playing even better! Anyone in particular an influence for your style that I could do a little research on?
Wow, outstanding job all around Sir. The matching shirt is a great touch.
Thanks!!

Thanks! I play drums in a forró band. Forró is a type of northern Brazilian party and dancing music, normally played on a triangle and zabumba drum (think marching surdo) by separate percussionists. The baião rhythm is a big part of forró music, and my video has some baião adaptations for drum set.
I studied the style with several great drummers including Marcio Bahia and Mark Ivester, but honestly the single best source I found is this one YouTube video: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIhoPUof68c"]Baião Lesson with Hugo Soares - YouTube[/ame] of Hugo Soares doing a cymbal endorser demo.

Thanks for posting the video. Pretty cool stuff!
Those Supersonic shells were hand-made by a guy who did them on a commission from Zickos. I think he made fiberglass boats as his main job. Seems like it was a little town somewhere in MO or Kansas.
I had a kit made up of some heavy amber resin shells that were sanded on the interiors and some green resin shells that were rougher on the inside and quite a bit lighter in weight. I think all these shells were the same original white gel-coat paint, fyi.
I didn't like the sound of anything other than the marshmallow-shaped bass drum. The other drums sounded weird...choked....boingy...needed a LOT of attenuation...did NOT like! But the bass drum I used many times as a surdo in a Brazilian music group I was recording with.
I sold everything off and kept the bass drum.
The hardware is very cool....but if you lose any of the pieces, you're screwed! None of it is standard size threads and can't be interchanged with anything else. And the clips that fit into the rim slots are essential!
