hello, everybody

I'm no Ludwig expert, but I happen to own this LM 402 Supraphonic 6.5"x14", keystone badge, brass rims, ludalloy shell (normal pitting), baseball bat muffler.

I want to sell it since I don't play it at all (it came together with another set), so I tried to learn about Supraphonics as much as I could in order to put together a decent description.

From what I know the baseball bat muffler puts it in between 1962 and 1968. But shouldn't the badge have a serial then?

the size would be a 6 1/2x14" not 15" also preserial numbered dated from 1960 -1963 so it is that time frame. Great score by the way.

That's what I was wondering.

It can't be a brass shell because it's too light for brass and then brass wouldn't have that kind of pitting.

The first few years the Ludalloy was introduced, Ludwig had both alloy types offered. I'm assuming the felt muffler is red?

Yes, it is red and actually the snare is in pretty god shape assuming its age.

(if it's really that old)

Is it true that there are less 6.5" around than 5" Supraphonics?

That's definitely an alloy (aluminum) shell. Does it have crimped beds or is it Acoustiperfect?

The first aluminum alloy shells were the same laterseamless spun ones, only the snarebeds were crimped like the brass ones. The crimp on an aluminum shell is a slightly different shape BTW.
