After buying 20" Bass Drum Hoops and determined that not only are they too narrow, but the inlays don't even match, I've decided to send them back to the person I bought them from and I'm back at square one.

Seems I only have two options:

1) Buy new ones from someone like Precision Percussion. This way I know that they will be right and new.

2) Try to buy vintage ones either on this site or eBay.

I know the ones from PP will be great and new and right, but they won't be vintage.

This will be a players kit so I'm not worried about originality as much as I'm worried about them looking and functioning correctly.

I'm leaning new ones.

What do you guys think?

Again, I just starting re-doing a drum set in pieces. The last three sets I had were all together.

If it were me I'd get new ones. I've seen a lot of vintage wood hoops that were out of round and/or warped. Seems like ones in good shape are still on their bass drums which are also also in good shape. Orphan hoops can often be pretty chewed up. There's a lit of kits missing their front hoop anyway. One of my 60's Slingerland kits was missing a front hoop so I picked up a new one, painted it black and put on the pearl strip in the middle and it works and looks great. For a players kit I wouldn't worry about tracking down a vintage hoop in great shape. Maybe get the new hoop and just keep an eye out for a vintage one with the idea if one turns up you can swap it out.

Norcoastal; Steve is right. His comment about missing / damaged hoops being very correct. I've ended up replacing both hoops on some of the players kits I've rehabbed. Sometimes it's the only way you can get something to match - or you end up with a nice kit that's had 'new, better' cheap chrome hoops.

I went with Precision for my missing 20" SBP inlays on the recently acquired Club Date. There are not vintage, but he had some older stuff in stock that was very close. And they were under 30.00 shipped.
