Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

man, i'm not real sure bout those camcos. there is a cup'l things i noticed that got me questioning them. i think john (purdie shuffle) or a cup'l other camco guys should take a look. the rims don't look right to me and then the tom stand too and a cup'l other things. i could be wrong tho, that has happened b4 believe it or not, lol.

Looks good to me. Rims seem correct for late 60's. Rogers tom brackets and mount were somewhat common to see. The stand, however, is Asian. No big deal to me.

Also has the rarer flat sided, straight BD spurs.

Never play it the same way once.

The Swivo hardware is ok on that kit. When I got my 59' Geo. Way bass drum, it had a Swivo tom mount that was added when the drum was purchased. I spoke to the guy who owned the kit originally. He used to be a Geo. Way distributor back in the day. He told me it was mostly a matter of personal preference. People would buy a virgin drum and add whatever hardware they preferred. Because my kit is composed of Oaklawn orphans, I just followed suit on the toms and all my Camco's/Geo.Way drums have Rogers Swivo legs, mounts, etc. I think, because of the turret shape, the Rogers hardware looks better on Camco drums and it sure as hell works better.

That bop kit is a sweet, rare one. It'll go for a serious price. Six days to go on the auction and bidding is already well over a G. Be fun to see what it ends up going for. Any guesses? I would imagine it'll go for $3500 plus for sure.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Hi Guys, i won the auction and i'm happy to read your posts because i have had doubts too! i've just received the set and i'm curious to hear how it sounds. The green is gently faded aging and i think it's very difficult to find a snare in that color, what do you think?

hi pack, congrats on the win. i wasn't real sure bout this kit at first but Purdie Shuffle said it is what it is, and i trust his words, and you can too. if you have never heard a camco set b4 you will notice a lit'l difference. they sound a lit'l different but they are cool, you will like them. as far as the snare...just keep your eyes open and you may get lucky to find one. if i were you tho, if you have any questions bout this kit, i would start a new thread in "vintage drums" or "general questions" sections. your question will be better seen and answered quicker. o and don't be affraid to show off your kit here @ vdf, we love eye candy.

best of luck to you with your camcos, hope you enjoy them as much as i do mine.

ps i would also put those mufflers back in place if i were you, the drums will sound better with them.

Ah thanks Robyn, can be a good idea to start a new thread! I'm a vintage Gretsch fan but i don't know much informations about Camcos so i'm open to advises and infos about that. I'll do some photos and open a thread in the right section.

I was lusting after that kit from afar - it looks like the real deal on every count.

That moss green lacquer is pretty unusual and, from what I gather, seems to fade a bit randomly dependent on when it was done (so few of these around I've actually only seen pictures). Yours looks like it's almost lime green which is so bizarre it's got to be great. Also very much a colour of the zeitgeist.

Hope you enjoy them - and, yes, you've got about as much chance of getting a matching wood snare as winning Powerball (OK, maybe slightly better but not much).

There's probably enough straight maple finish snares floating around that you might try and get someone to match it. Otherwise I can heartily recommend Camco COB snares from any of badge periods.
