Adding color to a Vistalite Drum Last viewed: 30 seconds ago

I found an 8" concert tom for my daughter's set, however, her set is smoke color and the tom I found is clear. I was thinking about taking to a window tinting shop and having a film added to the inside of the drum that would closely match her set. My questions are 1) would this damage the drum if I ever wanted to remove it, 2) would it impact the sound of the drum and 3) or should I just leave it clear and hope to find a smoke 8" tom some day. Thank you.

I wouldn`t think it would damage the drum upon removal as long as the person removing the film is careful...I definitely think it would change the tone of the drum though...

It could be a cheap experiment though...If she doesn`t like the tone afterwards, just remove the film...

Just my 2 cents...

Cheers

I would give it a shot. There is so little mass to static cling film that I would bet any change in tone would be negligible. Where you will probably run into a problem is re-installing hardware as it is quite possible that the film will twist when the hardware is tightened. The trick will be to keep the washers stationary while tightening the screws. Good luck!

Yes, clever idea! I'd give it a try.

since its for a small tom, you can get away with using one of the following:

i've seen people use lighting gels and mount them on the inside using the lug screws to hold it in place. but i don't know if they come in black. perhaps you can paint one side then apply it. or use 2 dark colors to equal black.

or you can go to a craft shop and get some of that tissue paper that girls put in gifts, but its not tissue paper, its kinda like the lighting gel. its clear and it comes in many different colors.
