Looks like the tom mount might have been a double mount at one time. I think they were still using the consolette for single tom mounts in 64. Looks like the correct dual tom mount minus one side clip. Shell would be mohogany-poplar-maple 3 ply. Maple on the inside and maple rerings. Looks like 20-14-12 sizes? What's the guy asking for them? They look nice and clean otherwise..... what are your concerns? Hopefully some of the other guys can pipe in for you.

awesome i was hoping they were mahogany. I think sizes are 20, 13 and 16 but i could be wrong. i played them once loved the sound and put money down so they wouldn't get sold. they look pretty good, very clean and a small amount of scratches. so are they radio kings? it doesn't say on the hoops but idk if there original hoops anyways. the rest of the hard ware looks original. yea it is supposed to be double mount for toms but one side broke off but I'm gonna put the tom on a snare stand anyways. hes asking $500.

Mahogany-poplar-maple plys to be exact. No I don't think they'd be radio kings. Just nice Slingerlands. $500 isn't bad but sounds like you already cut a deal on them. Post some closeups of the hoops and hardware when you get them home. Some guys here can spot original tension rod washers from 50 feet. They'd be the ones to fill you in more so than myself.

well I'm getting them from guitar center and the sales guy cuts me deals on a lot of the stuff i buy there but i guess on used stuff its harder to cut deals on things so I didn't bother him to much about lowering the price. ill be sure to get more pics once i get them. do you have any tips for heads on drums with these types of woods? i use coated ambassadors as res and coated vintage emperors for bat on my pearl masters maple kit but i feel like it might lose to much attack to do the same on the slingerlands cause there already so warm.

If they are used they should have a WAY easier time giving you a better deal! I don't see why you shouldnt be able to get these for $400. Especially if you are going to buy heads there also. Can't go wrong with emperors and ambassadors my friend!!

Cheers!

Looks like it could be an early Slingy Modern Solo kit missing one of the 12 inch toms. At least that's what the tom mount looks like.

Hmmm... $500 I'd say that's right on the edge, obviously $400 leaves you room to add the tom and stick a nice COB Sound King behind it.

That said, I could live $500.

Best of luck!

Sounds like you are happy with 500 and excited to get them. Thats all that matters, besides, they are really, really nice drums.

Congrats on a sweet vintage kit!

I agree with what's been said about the mount, unless you see holes on the left hand side of the bass drum when your in the driver's seat. It does appear that it's just missing a clip...and second rack tom. It appears that the hoops are correct. They should be COB (chrome-over-brass) sticksavers. Take a magnet with you next time you go to GC. If the magnet does not stick to the hoop, they are the correct COB hoops. I see a missing original T-rod at the 4 o'clock position. Maybe another missing at 10 o'clock, but too hard to tell. Those are $5-8 each on feeBay...correct COB hoops would be $25-50ish. If the hoops aren't sticksavers, or if a magnet sticks to them, use that and the missing T-rod(s) to try to work a better deal.

Geektar Center employees will tell you that they can't drop prices on vintage gear, but they did for me once before. They sent me a snare case when I found a small crack in the interior ply of my Jazz Fest after I received it. So, they can - but don't like to - cut better deals. They can also throw some heads in for you to sweeten the deal.

As far as heads, you really can't go wrong. But, a good 2-ply batter and single ply reso will sound real good. I've been told that Aquarian American Vintage heads on both sides are killer. I have them (mediums) on the batters of my late 50s Slingerland kit - with Classic Clear resonants - and they sound great.

Nice kit and Welcome to VDF!
