Grateful Dead developed today's digital stage and recording platforms, and most musicians don't even know it. Mickey Hart on the right, the more adventurist, while Bill Kreutzman, on the left, plays more of the traditionalist on stage.

The roles and dynamic are incredible on this early digital stage recording. It is live as it can be...I was there!

John, you are right when defining the drumming styles of Hart and Kreutzmann. For Christmas, I was lucky enough to receive the book, "Star Sets" by Jon Cohan. Within the pages, Billy Kreutzmann states: "We overlap a lot which just evolved from years of playing together." The author points out that Kreutzmann has "the lion's share of cymbals while Hart uses his mostly for punctuation." Mickey says that he "loves the groove but, loves ornamentation as well." Together these guys have "great alchemy" (Mickey Hart). Thanks for sharing, John. Beautiful music!!!

all you can stand of live video. It's never on the surface, it's all in the intricacies of the inter-play. Always has been.

I drove down to eugene oregon this summer to catch a 'Further' show (Dead tribute band, except there are a couple original members). I thought it was amazing that you could buy a cd after the concert of the show you just watched. Then we listened to the concert in the car on the way home and the quality was like it was out of the studio. Amazing.

The mic setup they had was pretty intense though. And call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure I spotted Steve Jobs at the show (this was a few weeks before he died), and apparently he's from the area and into that type of music... haha
