71 Ludwig wrap question

Loading...

Hello All,

Hoping you could help me find out if i've been somewhat swindled on this purchase. Too late now, but helps to know....I purchased a 22" 1971 Ludwig Bass drum. Black Diamond Pearl wrap. I currently have a 65 club date BDP kit and another 69 bass BDP, also a 70 bdp 8x12 tom. Two questions: the 71 bass drum wrap looks darker than all my other pieces, is there a possible shade difference between 70 & 71? Also, I just noticed where the interior area where the spur plate is, the spur hole is a bit larger than the cover plate on both sides (see photo). Hate to be picky and I probably am more of a player than collector, but I want my 70's kit to be right and accurate. Granted, this drum sounds great and looks good, but...

Thank you so much in advance for your help & advice,

Mike

Mike,

I just restored my 70/71 Ludwig bass drum, and that is perfectly ok. Mine has it too.

Surrounded by drummers here! (I am a guitarist.)

Depending on the environment that the drums have been exposed to, particularly sunlight, the wraps will age differently. Varying degrees of fading are to be expected.

Thanks so much guys, very happy to hear about the spurs. The wrap is still bugging me, besides being quite a darker shade, the surface even feels different, rougher thanall my other drums. Starting to think it was rewrapped, which means I will have to be on the hunt for another 70's bdp bass. Maybe stay away from ebay this time around....

Wow,

ec Curtis, Thank you! That would work if it was a 22 or 20 inch. Please give me another heads up should you find one. BTW, also looking for 9x13 Ludwig bdp (original wrap) Tom, re-rings and natural interior.

Thanks again!!
