70's Ludwig 14x10 snare Last viewed: 1 day ago

I just got my hands on this i don't see any mounting equipment for marching snare, but i do believe it is a marching snare. i intend to use it as a snare for my Ludwig Keystone reissue kit. does anyone know what its worth? or what year it could be? the badge is missing but you can see where it was, it looks like a 70s snare.

This is most certainly a Marcher, it had the leg mount that fit onto the tension rods so it will leave no extra holes or tail to tail signs that there was a mount even present. also the p85 you have on the drum now is the wrong era this is a present model p85 not a 70's model p85. it would have a black face not a silver or chrome one, marchers like yours sale in the $50.00-$100.00 range

Ditto what vintagemore2000 said above.

Obviously it had a B/O badge... to date the drum, IF:

1) ...It's a 3-ply shell w/rings, clear interior -- very early 70s;

2) ...It's a 3-ply shell w/rings, granitone interior -- early to mid 70s;

3) ...It's a 6-ply shell with clear maple interior -- late 70s.

In any case, you've got a good drum. Enjoy!

Thank you! here's a picture of the inside if you can tell..

so the P85 isn't original? that's a bummer, cause i was under the impression it was all original. i'm new to the vintage drum scene. my main snare is a Rogers Dynasonic off an old kit from my old church.

if anyone can help, the reason i got this snare is because i recorded a Pearl snare that was a 9x14 tama snare from the 80s and it sounded GREAT.. i got this cause it was reasonably priced and was close to the same size. do they put off around the same sound? or are marching snares built different?

In my opinion, this is the best wood shell Ludwig ever built the drum your shell has the clear interior, 3 ply shell, marchers are the same shell construction as Ludwig drum set drum. just made larger to produce more sound due to outside etc!! This is an awesome sounding drum the only problem your going to have is being able to get the drum to sit low enough on your drum kit. usually this will take a measure of taking an ole snare stand and cutting it down so as to hold a marcher low enough to use on a kit. you can sale of the present era p85 and get a 70's model it will run you $25.00 or so,

oh awesome, i'll look into getting the original.

also, i've read of some people saying some old marching snares don't have snare beds cut in. how much of a difference would that make?
