just received my drum in mail took a chance on it being 65 but i could not read the badge on pic he sent and low and behold a may of 65 nickel pioneer in sweet condition ill send pic later before i clean it and after

hope its legit but for a 100 its a players drum sounds nice

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Nice drum. I think I'd just clean and polish it and then play the heck out of it.

Not sure what you could do to improve on that drum. If that's the original wrap then of course leave it alone. Even if it's not the original wrap it does appear to be in good shape.

The only thing I would do to an old Pioneer is put some studier hoops on it and maybe a better throw with out having to drill into it. That does tend to make a good deal not as good though.

I wouldn't do much more than clean and polish it. That wrap (if original, which it looks like to me) makes it a valuable drum. OBP Pioneers can bring over $500 and sometimes have sold for almost twice that amount. I paid $600 for mine and that was many years ago. They are the "poor man's" Ringo snare and with OBP Jazz Fests going for $2000-$4000 that pulls the value of the Pioneer's up as well. The ONLY difference between the two drums is the number of lugs.

Glaze,

'OPB', otherwise known as 'OBP', in this case stands for 'Oyster Black Pearl' (also known as Ringo's wrap). It can also stand for 'Oyster Blue Pearl' (Pete Best's wrap), so it has to be read in context.........marko
