I know that the Ludwig 60's flat base stands were used for snare and cymbal stands. I know that the base sections for both the cymbal and snare stands were virtually the same, with the snare stand bases being just a bit shorter in height. To the best of my knowledge everything else was the same (leg length and spread etc). Am I correct on that?
Also, I know some stands have the moveable "collar" at the bottom of the stand that the wing screw threaded into like this:
And other stands have the wing screw thread directly into the stand like this:

What was the difference between the stands? Was it manufacturing years? Was it just random? Is there a difference in stability between the two? Does the non-collar version tend to strip out more than the collared version? Which is more common? If any of you fine folks could elighten me a bit on this, I would appreciate that.
