What a gorgeous kit! Congratulations. As pictured in the image gallery, I had to settle for a new "vintage" Downbeat in Galaxy Sparkle. You, my friend, get to have the real thing! Give them the TLC they deserve and enjoy them!

Mike, have you seen just the wrap for sale anywhere? I have a canister that is begging to be recovered!

From Avery

Hey!John, these drums do have the baseball-bat mufflers on them. I have looked extensively and could not find a serial number on any of the drums. Does that mean they're pre-serial and just completely without a number, or am I just missing something?...Great drums, Rick! I'm jealous that you have the snare as well! What year are yours?

Avery,

If there are serial numbers, they are on the Keystone shaped badges.

Three of my drums (tom, bass, snare) are pre-serial with 1962 or 63 (I think) date stamps and the floor tom has s srial number and a July 1965 date stamp. The bass does not have the resocoat interior paint, which I understand was not unusual for the larger shells in the 1962-63 time frame.

Rick

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

yeah man! what a great drum. when i bought my pioneer from mikejtone, he also had a pre serial jazz combo. i had to choose between the two. the pioneer was nicer. i'd sure like to have that combo now though, 3x13.

Nice Kit! I have the same drums and over the years have added a 13 and 16 floor toms and have a jazz fest and a 3x13 snare. I use if for everything from jazz to fusion gigs. I am now looking for a 22" bass to add to my collection if anyone out there runs across one.

Since we're talkin Black Galaxy I thought I'd throw up a couple of pictures. 14x20 bass, 9x12 14x14 16x16 Jass Fest and 3x13 with DW hardware. Still have all the original hardware and use it on small jazz gigs. Love this set
