Married 3 times to the same drum kit? Hopefully no more divorces! Excited
Congratulations, John. That's an amazing story and I guess third time's the charm, right? I'm really intrigued with that 20x18 bass. Since most from that era were 14" deep, what's the sound difference? It's a precursor to a lot of today's deeper bass drums and I'm wondering if if it has noticeably more punch. Play the heck out of those beauties and hang onto them this time!

LOL - Larry, I'm starting to feel like Zsa Zsa Gobor! Marrying the same kit over and over...
Thanks for all the comments, guys.
GWM - Re: the bass drum... Yes, punchy, responsive and not as much 'slop' as modern deep/beer-can bass drums. The thing I don't like about beer-can bass drums is an almost audible 'delay' in response. I've played 14's (deep) all my life, so I'm not used to mushy, or 'slow' bass drums in terms of response. But this one is every bit as responsive as a 14". FAT/warm tone out of these tubs. In this case, I think the added depth helps the drum to project better.
Don't ask me about the physics of it all/how, or why, it works the way it does, I just know what I hear and feel when I play em.
John
Wow those are amazing! I love that color and that bass drum!! Glad you got them back!
I remember those. Time to play 'em.
Sadly, this time around, I don't have a band to play them with! I used them 'once' when I was with the Blues band at an indoor hotel/bar gig and they sounded amazing. I would have taken them out more often, but I was afraid of damaging them. I did want to gig them just once though, and I got to do that a couple of years ago.
Bill, do you remember what color this wrap is supposed to be? In the original thread at the 'old forum' when I called it burgundy sparkle, some guys said, no... it's called 'something, something,' and I don't recall the name they used. I 'think' it was some oddball Gretsch wrap they were referring to.
If you remember the name, post it for me. (It's not burgundy sparkle...)
John
i think "we" came to the conclusion that it was much like the gretsch starlight sparkle wrap. correct me if i'm wrong. its been a while..
