That's a good start...

Maybe you should just split the difference and go with 3. A friend of mine has an old 60's Paiste 602 with 3 rivets and it's one of the coolest sounding rides I've ever heard. He won't part with it either!

Man, keep that one as-is and buy another one already drilled.....geez

They come available often enough.

FFR428 I had a old 20" A drilled for rivets back in the 70's. I had 6 put in and it sounded a bit choked. Took 2 out and was better with 4. Grew out of the sound after a few years and took them all out. I never really got the sizzle sound I was looking for out of it anyway.

That's an experience from FFR I would really listen to before drilling an old K. If it's done already, you can't mess it up it for the next owner.

If I do it, shame on me....!!!

Drill a ZBT if you gotta do some drillin....:)

Elvin finally used 4 rivets on his left and 2 rivets on his right. Both 20" K's.(sometimes a 22 on the right) There were 8 holes in each cymbal and I've seen rivets in all 8 holes. I wouldn't be surprised if when he lost a rivet, he just never replaced it.

Ahhh, good info! I'm a big fan of his work.

My 50's trans stamp has 8 original rivets. I was concerned that Zildjian didn't put 8 rivets in at the factory, but then I saw it in a 60s Rogers catalog. Sounds great, just as I'd hoped with the 8. Not sure I'll get a chance to try it with less. Anybody else a fan of 8 rivets?
