3 Slingy player snare drums that sound great! Last viewed: 1 day ago

All three of these drums are players that I picked up separately over time and sound fantastic to my ears. I know marketing and an endorser roster has an incredible amount of influence, but these drums deserve more love.

From top to bottom...

COW Spitfire , 12 lugs. Lots of folks hate the 12 lug thing, but this drum sings.

COB Radio King.

Lacquered brass, this ones my favorite. It feels and plays beautifully.

That's a fine collection you have there. Slingerland made great drums and I've always been a fan of their brass snares. My COB Buddy Rich model with stick savers and the TDR strainer with extended snares has a sound and sensitivity like no other snare drum I've ever played.

I got a COB Buddy Rich w/stick savers from a fellow member here and it's a beautiful drum. What heads are you using on yours?

Believe it or else!

You know, I have not changed the heads since I purchased it. It has a coated Remo Ambassador on the batter and an old Ludwig on the reso side with pearl snare wires. I believe they are 16 strand wires. I'd have to double check that. I usually play coated Emps on the batter, but this sounded so right from the moment I first played it.

Thanks! Mine has a Vintage Emperor/old Ludwig reso currently which is ok but I've been thinking a lighter weight like the Coated Ambassador/Hazy Ambassador will get me a nice dry "crack" rather than a boom! Still new at this you know.

my 6.5" COB Buddy Rich is easily my favorite snare. My daughter plays a 6.5" COB Sound King which is also beautiful sounding. Love those brass Slingy snares.
