26x14 chrome over maple with friends Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Does anyone have any experience with these chrome over maple Ludwig drums.

Any info or comments would be much appreciated.

26x14 B/O Bass

15x14 B/O Tom

14x13 Pre-Serial Keystone

The two toms are virtually identical construction wise, but one has a pre-serial badge and the other is late 70's or early 80's. One (pre-serial) was described as a marching tom and has several small holes near the bottom, otherwise it seems exactly like the B/O only 1 inch smaller. They are all very heavy. The maple looks like at least a 5 or 7 ply, but I haven't looked at them very closely yet. I thought my silver sparkle DW's were flashy until I saw these.

Why do you like them? What is there to like other than your back will go out carrying them around. I swear the bass must be close to 40 lbs...

I had some B/O badge COW,with rivets at the seams,Ludwigs attempt at sonor weight wise.I think mine were 6 ply, maple or maple and poplar. If you get good ones they sound big and loud at the right tuning, but I have played some from that era that were just totally dead.I still have an early 80's 6 ply kick that is huge sounding.I would not want those as a gigging kit, mine were way to heavy for this old back.

Huh,

I guess these are actually steel over maple because of the rivets I see. Rivets=steel and chrome=glued...

IS THIS NOT CORRECT oh yee metal gods?

These drums date to the early 80s, as evidenced by the rounded off B/O badges and the "pre-serial numbered" badge. Another clue is the Modular series mounting hardware. For a time during this period, Ludwig was riveting the wrap to the shell. Definitely a low point in their production quality, and generally not all that desireable from a collectability standpoint. They are indeed COW.

That Kick looks like a 16"x26" Because of the double spurs. These kits get a bad rap but they are great drums. I guess I'm a little prejudiced cause I own an 83' Kit in "The Sizes" They are indeed Heavy and thats exactly how they sound. Good Luck with them
