I did some research and have come to the conclusion that the 30s era marching bass I got on EBay is not 3 ply mahogany, but 2 ply walnut with solid maple re-rings. It's big (12x26) but incredibly light, and now I'm wondering if I made a mistake to do all this work to use on a rock kit. I still have some more work to do on the single tension rods, but I really hope it projects live and holds up to my heavy foot! What are peoples thoughts on this?
