1976 Ludwig Big Beat Outfit in Butcher Block Cortex

Loading...

From RogerSling

Well ... I went and did it. I brought a Ludwig kit back under my roof. I have always wanted a Butcher Block kit ever since I first saw one YEARS and YEARS ago. I'm in the clear minority in that I think these are pretty cool. These are 3 ply maple/poplar/maple with the clear inners. Absolutely beautiful shell layups with excellent edges. There is one tiny nick (size of an ant) on the 12 right at the midsection. There is a small chip (1/8 inch long) on the 16 just about under the hoop. That's the only issues with the kit. The chrome is unreal. I tested out a plethora of heads and settled on combinations of some clear and coated Remo and coated Aquarian. They have a deep and very round whoompf sound.Anyway, I'm enjoying the heck out of it.

Great finish - if it's good enough for Alan Dawson... Beautiful shape!

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

If anyone is interested in that kit on CL, I'm interested in the 16x16 floor tom!!

Here on Lake Como, Italy, I have my butcher block purchased from USA during the last year.. 22/13/18 plus a 24x14 bass drum which I leave in the place where I have rehearsal with my band. I think it's a great Ludwig... I really love it! but the 18" floor tom it's too big for me.. I'm searching for a 16x16!

this is my kit:

Here in Italy I know 2 other drummers who use Ludwig Butcher Block, a friend from Rome who purchased this one: http://www.ilgaragediasso.net/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=vmj_hunk.tpl&product_id=391&category_id=5&manufacturer_id=78&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=2&lang=it

And a drummer who played in a band called "The Fuzz Orchestra". His butcher block bass drum was the first I saw, some years ago in a gig.. I asked the drummer about that one and he told me he bought it during a tour in the States: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2063684601440&set=o.366206454903&type=3

Posting deleted. Did someone from here pick it up?

I thought long and hard about it, but I have to have a second Slingerland kit before I have a second Ludwig.

So did I ... several times. I've taken to pulling the floor Tom onto my lap ala Moon and chop some veggies mid-show.
