I am looking to add a tom to my old set that was purchased for me when I was 15 and started getting back into it. The current tom and a slide type and a bar on the bass. Can I change out and update to the newer styles today and find a tom?

this is the current hardware

Since a lot of people collect these drums, it might be better to leave your set in original condition and work towards a trade for a set that has the set up you're looking for.

i agree with Stallwart. i would leave that as is. if you want to add a second tom you could always mount one on a stand beside the bass drum.

Agree with Stallwart and Robyn. Leave it be, and trade for a more modern kit. That's a classic setup that you don't wanna mess with. Bad Karma. Probably cost-prohibitive as well.

Good luck.
