1958 WFL Red Snare Last viewed: 20 hours ago

Loading...

Hello, this is my first post here. My names Michael and I'm trying to figure out some info about my old drum set. It's a entire 1958 WFL drum kit. Everything is original parts from the speed king pedal, cymbals, even some of the ORIGINAL drum heads. It was purchased by my grandfather at The Drum Shop in Detroit Michigan.

I am only posting pics of the snare at the moment because I am currently cleaning the set up a little.

What I am here for is the oddness of the finish. I have seen a few different colors and even red sparkle but this isn't a red sparkle. When my grandpa bought it he was told by the owner it was a rare drum set. The finish was one of very very few made. I am here to ask people what they think about it.

Yes the whole kit is that same color red. I will be posting pics asap. Its a lot of clean up work to do. I hope he can. I would love to replace it. Its more of a family set interested in bring it back to as original condition as possible.

That's really neat. Is there anyone that can confirm this? I believe you, however what he was told by the owner that it was one of 11 red drum sets. Clearly this is a long time ago so i am not sure how everything works. He was told it was a mistake at Ludwig and it was SUPPOSED to be a red sparkle but for some reason its not.

The story you where told is very very likely. As I stated I've seen a snare drum the same color as your kit. Also I've only seen one other snare drum like the One I showed you the gold one and only one tom like my kit.

I hope so, either way its rare cause I can't find any like it. Can't wait to get the rest of the set up, maybe see what everyone thinks its worth. I mean not gonna sell it but just curious.

Hey guys I am having trouble with this. Could you look at the badges and tell me whats going on. According to what i see its indeed the 58 badge however my drum has a serial number on it. So can someone explain to me what exactly is going on?

A serial number? Where? There isn't one on the badge.

Okay maybe I am incorrect. Whats the number on the inside of the lip? I have a whole number there and I don't know what that is. Also this set is missing the part that goes under the badge. Theres another little brass tag but I have no idea what it said.
