1958-59 Ludwig 16 x 16 Floor Tom

Loading...

I have a 16"x 16" Ludwig Floor Tom with a blue and silver Duco finish. The badge shows it is a 1958-59 drum. It was part of a 1960 set of Rogers Luxor/Meteor Drum set mentioned in another post. The finish has completely chipped away on the bottom three inches but the wood underneath looks new. I have attached photos but not sure how to get them to actually post. This drum sounds fantastic even with the original heads. The bottom head and hoop were removed apparently to match the Rogers Luxor Tom. Luckily they left the lugs so I will need a hoop.

I have disassembled for cleaning but do not want to mess with the badge and grommet until I find the value. Any help is appreciated. Thanks to Gary for all his help with the Luxor set.

You are very welcome and I see you have learned to post a picture as well.

For the other pictures you want to show: Go to Manage Attachments, then browse and click the photo you want to post. Then finalize with the Upload button. Then close the Manage Attachments box. Your pics will then be able to be seen.

Didn't want to confuse or mis represent your Luxor outfit. The same is found in the 59R catalog which has a copyright of 1958. So, that lines up with your floor tom that came with it. Probably all purchased at the same time. Here is the catalog showing it:

I was going by the serial number if the snare but the serial in the Tom was 1341 so 1958 might be More accurate.

Very tough to date a Rogers drum just by the serial numbers. Have to consider the hardware characterisics as well.

In this case I'd say the "tell" is your transition badge limited time they used that Ludwig badge floor tom to help date the whole set. I doubt the floor tom was purchased alone first.

Makes sense that the whole thing was purchased at the same time. Rogers in the lower end sets were lacking floor toms and to add one was an extra addition.
