1955 WFL Buddy Rich Classic Drum set Last viewed: 2 seconds ago

Hello everyone!

I'm new to this forum and would like to introduce myself. My name is Jimmy Cicchini. I am a drummer and I live in Philly. I've been playing professionally for 40 yrs now.

My Dad passed away this past March and I inherited his vintage champagne sparkle WFL Buddy Rich Classic drum kit. He kept it in almost perfect condition!!

It needs a few heads and I need to reattach a couple of things he took off of the bass drum like the ride cymbal hook up.He had all of the parts and components stored in a box.[Hi Hat stand, snare drum stand,Camco bass drum pedal etc..] So I can rebuild it to look like new.

My question is what is a kit like this worth today? I am thinking of maybe selling the kit because I have been hit with some hard financial issues as of late.Do I need to put the heads on and reattach the components before I post a pic or does it really matter?

Thank you all very much.

Yours in drumming...

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy:

Welcome to the forum. First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your father. Are you any relation to Jack Cicchini in Chicago? Jack was a major jazz guitarist and guitar teacher in Chicago for many years.

Be ready for a feeding frenzy of vintage Ludwig/WFL drum sharks ready to pounce on you. Pictures of the drums in their present state and pictures of the various spare parts are necessary before anyone can give you an honest estimate on the value of the drums.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Welcome to the Forum.Sorry to hear about your Dad passing. My condolences to you and Family.Sounds like a sweet kit,Pics will help us and help you get the best price for the kit. Pics of badges, interior of shells, snare throw off and butt,Tom mount etc.For selling I would show the kit together with all parts attached, people usually pay higher dollar for a kit that is ready to go.I am not up on values, but like other collectibles, originality and condition play a big part, with some finishes bringing less, some bringing more and a lot of others right in the middle.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond to everyone. Thank you all so much for your insights and advice. I am taking all the required shots of the drums as I write this and will post them up for everyone to see and evaluate. I very much appreciate your comments.

The drums do come with four of the original A.Zildjian cymbals that my Dad bought when he purchased the drum set in 1955. 20" sizzle ride[sizzles removed],19"crash ride and two 14" hi hats. I had to use a cymbal stand from the 80's to mount the 19" crash/ride on.

I was wondering what type of wood these drums were made of? Also, there is no serial numbers on the drums just the patches?

OK I'll be posting up the pics ASAP.

Thanks!

Jimmy Cicchini

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Here are just a few shots of the drums. They're gold sparkle. My Dad kept them in immaculate condition.

I will post more pics of the drums individually and inside shots too along with hardware and spare parts.

Thanks...

Jimmy...thats a really, really nice vintage set ya got there!!

Like the guys said, replace the inlays and the cymbal mount.

Also, I'd get a bottle of novis polish, and give the entire set a good cleaning and polishing. And the cymbals look like they havent been cleaned and polished since 1955......maybe a good brass cleaner and polish on those as well.

With a week or so of work, I think your set set could look almost new.

Good luck!! And welcome to our forum. There are some wonderful guys here.

Man, there are several different camps on polishing cymbals, BUT........

If you are not going to keep the cymbals, let the buyer decide for themself whether or not to polish.

Many folks never polish, and if you polish them yourself it takes away the option for the next cat..... 'ya know?

Just some friendly advice brother....

A most excellent outfit you have there.... Congrats !!!

Thanks guys!

I'm not sure where I'd get the inlays for the hoops? I think my Dad had the other cymbal mount for the bass drum in his extra hardware? If not, where can I get something like that?

You all are a gigantic help to me.

I will post the pics of the cymbal stamps if I can get them to come up in the pics? The stamps are kinda hard to see but I'll do my best.

Again thanks guys!!
