Thanks for the buzz advice guys.

I think my snares may be a little too short as well....they don't draw up into the snare beds very well especially with the plastic head. I can get around this though by putting a calfhide head on the drum. The beauty of calfhide - as opposed to plastic - they will conform to the drum....especially around the snare beds where I think the issue here is.

I tried tuning the rack to up and down...it did help a little but I'd rather not do that because right now I have the toms tuned nicely. So, I'm hoping the issue will be solved ...mostly....buy putting the calfhide head on the snare.

I'll post the results one way or another.

And thanks for the compliments guys.

I put a calfhide head on the reso side (already had one on the batter) and that did not help with the buzzing. I also took all my snare drums....a dozen or so.....out of the drum room just in case they were adding to the problem. Still big lot of buzzing going on. I think the little brass receptors in the tom lugs are making some noise too. I can fix that no problem. I did remove the mutes on the rack tom as well.....they need tweeking to get rid of a bit of rattle there. It's funny, my wife says, (others too) that I'm going deaf...I am a little hard of hearing for sure, but sometimes it's the littlest noise that even my wife can't hear sometimes that drives me crazy. It's not a little buzzing here though - it's a lot. I switched out the old snares too - that didn't help. I may try some brand new ones...a little longer. The ones I have are only a bit longer than 13" (Responso - Gretsch). The throwoff is not good as well......Renown-like. I may try to get a Gladstone (Repro) and fit it to the shell....without drilling new holes...that can be done. That will have to make a difference. I'm pretty sure there are no cracks in the shell (it passed the "knock on the shell" test to listen for buzzing) or nicks in the bearing edges. It is a nice snare shell and I want to be able to use it so I will press on with the buzz investigation.
