The top hoop in the first photo looks wonky. Is it the pic or the hoop?

Tell me about it...!!!

I'll check on that later tonight when I get home from teaching...I don't remember anything looking wrong...I measured 5 1/4' from rim to rim...I'll follow up on this...

Damn what a gorgeous drum....and in outstanding condition, I might add!

I appreciate the attempt to engineer a system of suspending snares that gave the drummer infinite adjustment. I mean look at how the snares can be precisely aligned to the bed. Looks extremely well-made and robust, as well.

I have one question, though; how can this dual throwoff mechanism work if there is no center post/pulley like on this drum to operate both sides? Am I missing something?

Here's a very non-technical answer to your question and a few photos...There is a spring-like gizmo that is secured by two screws to the butt side mechanism, the ends of the spring crisscross upward like an "x" and are held in place just under the adjustment "post" so this acts as a type of spring-load so when the lever side is engaged or dis-engaged it triggers the butt side. Somewhat crude but it does work...nowhere near as good as the center-post or pulley mechanism.

One photo is of the spring, one is in the engaged position and the last one is in the dis-engaged position.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Mike. I have to say I'm in awe of the craftsmanship and engineering detail that went into these mechanisms...they have an almost watch-like quality to them.

Cheers,

Rob

Yes, a lot going on with that mechanism, even more so than the L & L version.
