Will try get some more pics. As far as I can narrow it down – the 14x4" drum has 8 lugs and logo to left of throw in the same panel which would make it 1923-25?As you can see from the pic the top of the snare tension adjuster has been replaced – if anyone has one let me know... (in the picture the bottom claws are non original)The 15x4" has ten lugs so could be anywhere from 1924-27.

supraphonic - On the first page of this thread about halfway down I posted a breakdown for the 14” All Metal Separate Tension (AMST) model by what I called “style” and numbering the four styles. The “Style” method gives us a quick reference for grouping the AMST models based on the catalogue changes over the years. We get four different AMST styles over about a decade. By using this style breakdown your 14”er would appear to be “Style 3”. I didn’t do a style breakdown of the 15”ers. Thanks for posting!

Thought I'd add some input to this thread as I've just recently bought one of these snares. I thought I was buying a 14" x 4" Ludwig NOB dance model as that was what was advertised on auction but when it arrived I discovered it was the 15" x 4" concert dance model. It was annoying not to get the snare I was expecting but I'm not too sure if it is a good or bad thing - I might well sell it back on. It has 8 lugs and logo to left of the strainer which dates it to 1923/4. It came with an old oilskin cover and the original stand. I've added photos of the strainer and shell for reference on this thread.

I know this 2-piece shell is basically the same as the famous black beauty ones. I have old calf heads on both sides but am not sure about the old snare wires. They are awkward to adjust and I think they are well past the stage of sounding like they would have in their prime. Maybe like expecting a prize guitar to sound great with duff strings! Anybody know if anyone makes new replacements for these?
