15x12 slingerland marcher..is it a slingy shell??? Last viewed: 3 days ago

So i picked this marcher up the other day for a project...started breaking it down to clean ( as you can see the white marine is now yellow)

So I took the heads off the marcher and started inspecting the shell...the shell isnt 3 ply maple OR does it look it 3 ply mahogany...I broke out the trusty slingerland book and it states in the book that there was a period that slingerland was using a Masonite shell..Is the drum a slingerland?

Something else that has me thinking is the badge on the drum is loose and you can clearly see that someone reattached the eyelet to the drum...hence the splintering wood that is left from the shotty installation..The mark on the shell underneath the slingerland badge however looks the same size as the badge on the drum...At this point I am just confused on if this drum is even a slingerland drum or if it is the masonite shell construction.....

Thanks

Jeff

I think it is a real Slingerland. The shell looks like 3 ply mahogany to me. I looks like a marching snare drum that somebody converted into a horizontal tenor drum like some schools used in the early 60"s. Too bad they didn't leave it alone.

Definitely not Masonite. Definitely a real 3 ply Slingerland from the 50's displaying all correct 50's hallmarks. Interior is beautiful mahogany & looks like the interior of some of my nicer 50's Slingerlands. The plies are thin & looks like it just split a little around the grommet which is typical. I wouldn't necessarily say it looks like badge was tampered with, they can sometimes get a little loose after 60 years. Not sure what you paid for it, but at the least it looks like you have over $125 in parts alone. I'd say there is zero chance of it being anything other than a 1950's Slingerland drum.

Thanks for all the help! I paid 125 for it. Never saw the badges come loose on slingy drums but hey I'm still learning. The nickel on this thing is superb.
